Understanding the Middle East

From terrorism to uprisings in the Middle East & North Africa,
Dr. Raymond H. Hamden
provides psychological analysis
from an international perspective

As an American living in the Middle East, Dr. Hamden shares a unique perspective on the area and its problems. He is director of the Human Relations Institute in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he established a psychology practice in 1990; and chairman of the The Foundation For International Human Relations in Washington, DC.

Dr. Hamden has trained personnel in Homeland Security and Forensic Science in the intricacies of Middle Eastern nations and people. Conversant in political psychology, he describes how nation-governments can be dysfunctional and explains how this affects the people, including the wave of protests sweeping the Arab world today.

Dr. Hamden serves as a consulting psychologist to industry, law enforcement, and higher education institutions, as well as print and broadcast media outlets. He has appeared as an expert in major media including ABC 20/20, Al Jazeerah English TV, ABC Good Morning America, National Public Radio, CNN, BBC, Al Arabiya, Bulgaria TV, Canada AM, and many others.

He is host of In The Psychologist's Chair ®, starting its 2012 season in April on VoiceAmerica Network – Talent Radio and Gateway TV. Recognized as "The People's Psychologist", Dr. Hamden goes beyond assessment and diagnosis; the key to helping people is to find solutions to problems including marriage and family issues, stress, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, learning differences, clinical and corporate concerns. He also addresses psychological issues in business, crime and cross-cultural relations. Format is VIP Interviews, update in application of psychology, engaging the audience.

"People are people worldwide. Bringing an international outlook through effective communications to reach better understanding to foster mutual cooperation is the mission and vision," he says.

Dr. Hamden coined the term "The Retributional Terrorist – Type 4" while a 1986 Visiting Fellow at the University of Maryland [College Park]. This was published as a chapter in a four-volume text The Psychology of Terrorism, Dr. Chris Stout (editor, 2002). Also a chapter entitled "Unresolved Trauma and the Thirst for Revenge: The Retributional Terrorist" was another chapter in a three-volume project by James JF Forest, Ph.D. of The West Point United States Military Academy. He is currently completing a contracted book Terrorist Psychology: Profiling and Counter-Action (CRC, Taylor & Francis Publishers).
